Meet Annika

Annika Ek

Annika Ek is a Functional Nutritionist and Ph.D. student at Ubiquity University in Wisdom Studies.

She has discovered that the weaving together of Health and Wisdom sets the stage for powerful and lasting shifts with regards to health and healing at all levels of our being.

Annika hosts the private community TrulyU Women’s Circle, where she teaches health & wisdom and holds space for the members to accomplish together what would not be possible alone.

As a nutritionist, Annika is on a mission to teach anti-inflammatory eating and living since inflammation is involved in basically all chronic and degenerative illness plaguing our society today. Women are disproportionately impacted by inflammatory illness, and 75% of autoimmune sufferers are women.

Annika teaches that an anti-inflammatory approach to eating, living and cooking has the power to prevent, reverse and reduce symptoms of inflammation. She works with clients individually, in groups and is available as an engaging speaker.

Annika loves cooking and creating healthy recipes. She shares her recipes on her food blog EatLiveCool.com and as a consultant.

As the mother of two daughters, and part of a family where autoimmunity and inflammatory conditions has touched at least 3 generations, including herself, Annika knows first-hand how quality of life can be improved with diet and lifestyle changes, and by being on the path of living a conscious life.

Annika’s life encountered a course correction more than 20 years ago when she went through a health challenge and decided to take charge of her own health by changing her diet. She soon felt better and that experience sparked a passion for healthy living, she left a tech career behind and began studying holistic health. She has earned several diplomas in holistic health, with nutrition being her main focus.

Even though Annika felt better after the first round of diet changes, she has encountered other health challenges over the years. Each challenge has forced her to deepen her studies and look for different approaches

Annika has earned several diplomas including Chartered Herbalist (CH) from Dominion Herbal College in 2001, Registered Holistic Nutritionist (RHN) with Distinguished Merit from Canadian School of Natural Nutrition in 2003, and Homeopathy and Heilkunst from Hahneman College for Heilkunst in 2007. She is a member of the Canadian Association of Holistic Nutrition Professionals (CAHN-Pro) and began work in private practice in 2004.

In recent years Annika has learned from the leaders in the Functional and Integrative Medicine Community. She has studied digestive health and autoimmunity with Dr. Datis Kharrazian and Andrea Nakayama. Nutrigenomics with Dr. Ben Lynch, Environmental Health at Arizona Center of Integrative Medicine, Environmental Toxins with Lara Adler, and Amino Acid Therapy with Julia Ross.

In parallel with studies in holistic health, Annika has been an avid student of wisdom and consciousness studies. Over the last 20 years, she has followed the teachings of Eckhart Tolle, Caroline Myss, and Bruce Lipton. She has also studied Qi Gong with Pedram Shojai, received 2nd-degree attunement in reiki, studied evolutionary astrology, and is part of at the AP program taught by Steven Forrest. She has received introductory initiation in the cross-cultural Universal Shamanism Pachachuti Mesa Tradition by don Oscar Miro-Quesada. In addition to this Annika has recently enrolled in Ph.D. studies at the Wisdom School at Ubiquity University.

Annika was born and raised in Sweden and moved to Canada as an adult where she still lives with her husband, two daughters and their red poodle Miro. When Annika is not studying or cooking, you may find her gardening, birdwatching, painting or drawing.
